Maybe youíve seen watercolor batiks before, have been fascinated with them. You wanted to know how to create your own, but didnít know where to start. Or maybe this is an entirely new idea that you have just discovered.
Join us as we create this unique and colorful variegated fritillary butterfly batik. As with traditional batik using resist and paint on fabric, Liz will teach you this exciting process using paraffin wax and watercolors on rice paper. In this class Liz presents the techniques in easily understandable steps as well as providing written instructions, photographs, and worksheets.

  • Winsor & Newton artist watercolors:
  • New Gamboge Burnt Umber
  • Winsor Violet Raw Sienna
  • Alizarin Crimson French Ultramarine Blue
  • Cadmium Orange
  • Supplies:
  • ĺ - 1" wash brush
  • A small round brush
  • A couple of old brushes for waxing, large and small sizes (wax cannot be removed)
  • Ginwashi, rice paper, 10 Ė 12" square can be obtained from
  • Watercolor palette or Styrofoam plates
  • Paraffin wax, a couple of blocks
  • Fry pan with adjustable temperature control (or
  • 7 Gypsies glue pot) melt wax at 180 degrees
  • Sheet of dark construction paper
  • Waxed paper
  • Water containers, one for clean and one for dirty water
  • Pigma pen
  • .05 or .1
  • Pastel pencils
  • Masking tape
  • Old Newspapers for ironing and covering your work surface
  • Iron
  • Ironing surface
  • Trash can
  • Ruler
  • Hair dryer
