And yes you read that right. A free workshop! If you have never experienced an online class, or if you have never tried one of ours, now you can at no cost to you.
Our purpose of a free class offering is two fold. First this workshop was created as a way of saying thank you and giving back to our online community. Second, what better way to answer your questions as to what an online workshop is all about than by having you actually experience a real workshop, And even if it is not the class for you, it's a great test run!
So it's time to gather fabric scraps, bits and pieces of what you already have and put them to good use! We will construct two prayer flag hangers...one that is sewn and one that is glued... for those of you who don't like to sew.
This workshop has been structured so that you use things you might already have on hand so the supply list is very short.
~ time to delve into your fabric scraps stash, or look at clothing you no longer want or intended to throw away, for scraps to build your flag. We will be working with rectangles cut to approximately 6" x 10".
I mostly used Tacky Glue in the video although I do mention Fabri-tac (I found both at Walmart) for really thin fabric (usually laces) that other glue might stain. The type of glue you use is totally up to you and I would start with what you already have and see how it works for you.
Thread, needle, sewing machine...if you are sewing your flag
This is totally up to you and what you might have lying around the house or your studio. If you plan on hanging your flag outside keep in mind things that might not hold up to the weather. I would seal any paper with something like Mod Podge or a decoupage glue, or gel medium, as I think that would preserve the paper longer. I tend to work with buttons, lace and metal pieces. The metal pieces will rust on the fabric, but for me that is all part of the charm. You will have to decide whether that would bother you or not.
