You’ll learn to create magical collages in an exciting and productive workshop!  I’ll guide you through:
  • Mixing luscious layers with re-inkers, acrylic paint, and glaze medium
  • Using alcohol inks, stencils, handwritten text, a variety of papers
  • Three fun methods of adding photo transfers to collage
  • Choosing the best images for your collages
  • Composition tips for making your chosen images pop and for creating a balanced collage
  • Combining paint and papers to add mystery to your pieces
  • Enjoying and building on so called “mistakes”
  • Sealing your collages with a variety of mediums and adding finishing touches

You’ll come away from this class with several gorgeous collages and all the tools you need to keep creating collages incorporating your memories and your imagination.

SUPPLIES

  • Acrylic paint (liquid or heavy body) in primary colors, white, titan buff, Payne’s gray, and black (or similar)
  • Ranger or similar brand re-inkers in earth tones such as caramel, butterscotch, rust, lettuce, and espresso (http://www.blockheadstamps.com)
  • Ranger Adirondack alcohol inks in three earth tones (http://www.blockheadstamps.com)
  • Soft gel medium (any finish)
  • Golden or Liquitex glaze medium  (dickblick.com, cheapjoes.com, or jerrysartarama.com)
  • Old magazine
  • Garment pattern (local thrift store)
  • Used and dry teabags
  • Reproductions of your favorite family photos, vintage photos, or old master paintings (Have some inkjets in b/wh and color, and some toner (copy center) prints in black and white)
  • Canvas boards or wood panels (six or so) four about 8 x 10” and two about 9x 14.  Anything close in size is fine. (Dick Blick is a good source.)
  • Citra-solv  (cheapjoes.com if not available locally)
  • Roll of clear packing tape
  • Tissue
  • Paper towels (including some stained with paint and/or ink)
  • Water
  • Paintbrushes in various sizes
  • Vintage book pages
  • Collage paper
  • Permanent fine point marker or pen
  • Aquarelle crayon (black)
  • Dried, used teabags
  • Reproduction of a vintage letter
  • Specialty papers (text and lacy)
  • Old canvas or board with collaged images torn off
  • Sponge
  • Brayer or similar item to flatten collaged elements
  • Cotton balls
  • Dried, used teabags
  • Scissors
  • Fine grade sandpaper
  • Tea
  • Carving tool
  • Cold wax medium
